Future Stars Schools
The Gold Coast Academy of Sport (GCAS) is extremely proud to be partnering with schools on the Gold Coast and have a shared responsibility in the development of our future sporting talent. We are focused on helping to develop the ‘whole’ athlete. The school ‘Future Stars’ sporting program commenced at Upper Coomera State College in 2016 bringing outside influences to the elite sporting group within the College. Presentations are delivered by professionals in their field and add to the overall well-being of developing athletes. The UCSC Future Stars program exists to provide future support for aspiring athletes within the school and guide them in their journey. With 2032 being a major developmental target now for our sporting youth, it is increasingly important to identify and develop the talent schools influence.
In 2019, an additional program was begun at Pimpama State Secondary College.
Both schools focus on developing a robust, responsible and well-developed young person in many different areas.
The school and sports teachers encourage athletes from years 7 to 12 to apply to be part of this program. The GCAS is proud to support the education of these athletes by offering core sessions conducted by professionals to help to develop the ‘all round’ athlete.
In addition to the various skill development sessions conducted within the school, the athletes are involved in several educational sessions to help develop and mature into a ‘student of their own event and sport’. These sessions are selected from a long list of presentation topics and include nutrition, sports psychology, sport technology, talent identification, anatomy and physiology, strength and conditioning and time-management to name a few.
On completion of the yearly program, all athletes will be recognised at the ‘End of year graduation’ ceremony conducted at the RACV.
